Has anyone had any sucess selling their art online?

I paint and want to start selling my work online. Has anyone else on here done this? What was your experience like?

Natasha (previous commenter)… I love your art! Congratulations on your success.

I am an eBay Powerseller in oil paintings.

You need to put your paintings and some information about yourself in every possible place you can find on the internet. Places like myspace, flickr and blogs are free. Auctions like eBay and Etsy will cost some money. A website is nice, but no one will find it if unless your work is in many other places on the web. Yes, you can spend as much time marketing your art as making it!

You will find lots of information by reading the “Internet Sales” forums on www.wetcanvas.com

I don't have any expirience, but I do have a Deviantart.com account, they allow you to sell prints of your artwork there. you may want to check that out, it seems simple enough :)

I have. Been doing this fulltime for 4 years now, been on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, a few movies, and have children around the world from preschool up to college learning about me and doing reports on me.

    My experience is:

    - Its the toughest and most underratted business you can be in. You will face criticism and misunderstanding from people you don't know AND from family and friends, in some form or another.

    - You are better off than others if you have good credit. Having good credit means having the ability to get business loans and reinvesting in the equipment and supplies needed to expand on your art business. I have, however done my business completely on CASH for the last 4 years.

    - There are slow seasons. Be aware that summer, holidays, and economic slumps can affect sales.

    - You have to really understand your market, your target audience, your own art, and where you want to be. Knowing these things will help you avoid bad customer base (you will see what I mean in time..), going into debt, or losing everything.

    Figure out a game plan:

    - Your 5 year business plan

    - Where and how you will work and sell

    - If you should continue working your current job or go full time without another job (I recommend staying in your job while doing this, though I have never had a job these 4 years)

    - Save money and be sure to bookkeep properly

Here is a tip about very good resource for bulk lots. Being an eBay power seller you’ll want to check this one out http://www.nickysb2b.com I personally have saved well over 80% on goods there and they offer much more. They have an interesting article out 7 Reasons Why Business Liquidation Auctions Make Sense good read.
